Julie Graves
Julie Howard Graves was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia where her parents settled to raise their two children after serving their country in the military. Julie's parents instilled in her a love for God, country, and family, which included active participation in their church, Roswell Street Baptist Church, and service to the community. After graduating from Marietta High School she enrolled in the University of Georgia where she completed a Bachelors of Science in Education. After several years of teaching, Julie spent a year in Brazil serving in a support role to three missionary families. Upon returning to Georgia she completed a Masters in Education at Georgia State University.
While teaching middle school in Cobb County Julie met Tom. The couple was married in 1996 in Marietta, Georgia. Shortly afterward they bought land and a small farmhouse in Ranger, Georgia where they worked together to restore the house and build a barn. In 1998 Tom and Julie welcomed their first child, JoAnn, who was joined by John in 2000 and Janey in 2002.
Recently, Julie has taught in the Gordon County School System where their children attend. The Graves family is active at Belmont Baptist Church where Julie has taught Sunday school and serves as an Awana children's group leader.
Julie is passionate about protecting the dignity of human life, particularly those unborn members of our community. In 2001 when an abortion facility attempted to open in Gordon County, Julie initiated and helped to organize a local chapter of Georgia Right to Life, of which she served as president for five years. Tom and Julie continue to actively support the pro-life movement.
Julie believes in freedom and the ideals on which America was founded; for this reason she has supported Tom during his four terms in the Georgia General Assembly and now as a Member of Congress. For the Graves family, public service is a way of life which they seek to pass on to their children. Julie and the kids look forward to joining Tom on the campaign trail, campaigning with friends and meeting many new folks in the 14
th Congressional District.
