In 2008, FreedomWorks, the group led by Dick Armey that helped kick-start the tea party movement, gave awards to two state lawmakers. One was Rubio. The other was Graves.
Hawkins, 59, is more a traditional Republican - a practicing dentist for 30 years, first elected to the Legislature in 2006. His focus in the congressional campaign is small business. He pitches himself as a steady conservative and has had little contact with the tea party movement. "He's not really associated with it at all," said his spokesman, Steve Holman.

Graves Outraises ALL Opponents; Momentum Grows Daily
Finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission yesterday show Republican State Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ranger), candidate for Congress in Georgia's 9th District, out raised his seven opponents for the latest fundraising period. Graves' report shows nearly $163,000 raised from individual contributors and political committees for the 3rd quarter of 2009, while all the other candidates reported less.

Republican State Representative Tom Graves (R-Ranger), candidate for the 9th Congressional District of Georgia, today filed his 3rd Quarter fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission that showed receipts of $279,450 for his campaign. GRAVES DOMINATES UNION COUNTY GOP STRAW POLL

OP-ED: Patient Centered Patient Driven Health Care Reform; Making Health Care more Affordable, Portable and Accessible
Clearly, no issue is more in the public eye right now than that of health care reform. And, the Democrat-controlled Congress and the Obama Administration seem more interested in rushing a careless bill of failed reform options through Congress and signing it into law, than they are about the consequences the legislation would have on the quality of life of the American patient. The plan they propose is government centered and government driven. This approach will only exchange a malfunctioning health care system in need of reform for one that is even worse.
